It’s better to pop them whenever there’s big damage going on instead of trying to save them for the perfect moment.
Don’t be afraid to use your healing cooldowns. When you pop a cooldown like healing tide or ascendance, make sure to also have cloudburst active. If there’s not melee, and the ranged will be taking any damage, I try to snuggle up next to the ranged and healing rain on as many of us as possible. If there’s melee in the group, I’ll drop healing rain on the tank. Healing Rain is also really efficient right now, any time there’s incoming cleave or party-wide damage. It’s your most efficient heal, so if you’re sitting at 2/2 charges of riptide available, you’re missing out. Try to keep riptide on cooldown and spread to as many people as possible. I just immediately refresh it after each pull is over, even if it’s still at 7 or 8 stacks. Make sure earth shield is always up on the tank. Even if you’re not trying to time the burst and just letting it pop when the duration runs out, it still usually ends up providing a relatively huge amount of healing over a dungeon. If you’re doing medium to hard content for you, then Cloudburst will outshine Healing Stream by a mile. The only time Healing Stream might be better is when you’re doing reeeeaaaally easy content, where Earth Shield + Healing Stream can handle most of the healing, and you’re just dps’ing. I think 90% of the time Cloudburst is better than Healing Stream. Like any other class, it just takes some getting use to. I believe it may just be something that you will get a hang of as you do more dungeons on your shaman. Keeping Healing Rain down on your party helps as well, and the occasional Chain Heal when everyone is clumped up close enough to get hit by it.
By default we tend to go Riptide -> Healing Surge, Riptide -> Healing Surge as much as we can for single target healing. There really isn’t a set rotation either in M+. I would also recommend Earthen Wall Totem, you can drop it over the party and it helps absorb some of the incoming damage from anyone standing within the radius. I know it helps me alot when the group is taking heavy damage, and at your ilvl you can easily store ~30k healing to distribute among the group within the cloudburst. You can let it deactivate naturally after 15s or pop it early if you need group healing.
It’s really helpful in toping up the group towards the end of a pull or even mid pull if you are fighting the mob for a while. With Echo of the Elements, you can have 2 charges of Cloudburst too. One that might help you the most is taking Cloudburst Totem.
You have Ascendance which is our “Oh No!” CD, pop that whenever the group is taking heavy damage and just spam healing.
